Early leaders of the program, including executives from The Des Moines Register and Tribune and Meredith Corp., set communications education on a course that emphasized experiential learning and a professional orientation.
Places and Spaces
Prior to the opening of Meredith Hall in 1965, communications courses were scattered throughout campus and “operated with the most primitive of equipment,” according to a history of the program.
Drake student work, both curricular and extracurricular, is consistently recognized in local, regional, and national contests. In 2016-2017 alone, student work in all majors won more than 75 awards.
